Hearing God's Voice

October 27, 2024
Steve Rozema

We can discern God’s voice through personal thoughts that resonate with His Word, using Scripture as a powerful filter for understanding His guidance. Embracing silence amidst our busy lives allows us to quiet distractions and better attune ourselves to His gentle whispers. Additionally, fostering deep connections within our community provides affirmation and challenge, reminding us that faith is a collective journey. Ultimately, responding in faith means taking bold, actionable steps, and trusting in God’s perfect timing and purpose as we seek to align our lives with His leading.

REVIEW: Hearing God’s Voice: Personal and Scriptural Discernment

  • READ: Hebrews 4:12 "For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires."
  • DISCUSS: How can we distinguish between God’s voice and our own thoughts? What role does Scripture play in helping us discern His voice from our own desires and feelings?

REVIEW: The Value of Silence: Slowing Down to Hear God

  • READ: 1 Kings 19:11-12 "And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a sound of a low whisper."
  • DISCUSS: Why do you think God sometimes chooses to speak in a "gentle whisper" rather than through dramatic events? What distractions in your life hinder your ability to hear God, and how can you create space for silence?

REVIEW: God Speaks Through Community: We Need Relationships

  • READ: 1 Corinthians 12:12, 27 "The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ… All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it."
  • DISCUSS: How does hearing God’s voice within a community strengthen our faith and understanding? Can you share an experience where someone in your community confirmed or challenged your perception of what God was saying?

REVIEW: Responding in Faith: Stepping Out with Confidence

  • READ: Hebrews 11:1 "Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see."
  • DISCUSS: How did Elisha demonstrate faith by following Elijah, and what can that teach us about our own steps of faith? What specific step is God calling you to take right now, and how can this group support you as you move forward?

  PRAY:

Lord, we thank You for the gift of community and the chance to grow together in faith. As we gather, open our hearts and minds to hear Your voice clearly, guiding us in our discussions and decisions. Help us to support one another in discerning Your will and responding with courage to the call You've placed on each of our lives.
