How Should We Fight Injustice?

April 28, 2024
Dr. Allen Holmes

As Christians, we are called to pursue justice.

REVIEW: We need to love.

  • READ: 1 John 3:14 “If we love our brothers and sisters who are believers, it proves that we have passed from death to life. But a person who has no love is still dead.”
  • DISCUSS: How have you personally experienced Jesus expanding your capacity for loving others?
  • DISCUSS: Are there any individuals or groups of people that you still find difficult to love?

REVIEW: We need to speak the truth.

  • READ: Ephesians 4:15 “...we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church.”
  • DISCUSS: Many people tend to be either graciously silent or abrasively truthful. What are your tendencies when it comes to speaking the truth? What would it look like for you to be more balanced?

REVIEW: We need to work for justice.

  • READ: Micah 6:8 “No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.”
  • DISCUSS: Who in your life needs support, provision, or protection? How can you be an active force of justice for them?

REVIEW: We need a non-violent strategy.

  • READ: Hebrews 12:14 “Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord.”
  • DISCUSS: What are the ways you are able to find peace in your heart through Jesus, and are you practicing those things intentionally?

  ASK:

What else did you get from this week's sermon? What actions or next steps can you take to apply it to your life?

  PRAY:

For compassion and love toward all people, courage to speak the truth and do something about it, and wisdom in building influence with the world God has called us to reach.
