Key passage: Matthew 4:19
Often, we find Jesus when we come to the end of ourselves.
REVIEW: Sin is not just breaking rules; sin is independence.
- READ: 1 John 2:16-17 “For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.”
- DISCUSS: What needs or struggles do you have a tendency to control or try to fix on your own? What might it look like to more fully surrender that to Jesus?
REVIEW: Jesus says to invite all kinds of people now, and he will sort them at the end.
- READ: Matthew 13:47 “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a fishing net that was thrown into the water and caught fish of every kind.”
- DISCUSS: How can we be more invitational as a community?
- DISCUSS: Who is someone you have seen transformed over time by following Jesus?
