Key Passage: Matthew 2:1-2, 9-11
The three gifts that the wise men brought to celebrate the birth of Jesus reveal three unique ways He helps us connect with the kingdom of heaven.
REVIEW: Jesus is prophet.
- READ: John 1:14 “So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.”
- DISCUSS: How have you recently experienced Jesus speaking to you and calling you to repentance?
REVIEW: Jesus is priest.
- READ: Hebrews 4:14-16 “So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”
- DISCUSS: Do you feel free to be confident and bold with God? If not, what keeps you hesitant or timid?
REVIEW: Jesus is king.
- READ: Hebrews 1:3-4 “The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven. This shows that the Son is far greater than the angels, just as the name God gave him is greater than their names.”
- DISCUSS: What have you learned from the example of Jesus lately?
ASK:
What else did you get out of the sermon this week? What actions or next steps can you take to apply it to your life?
PRAY:
Pray that we would hear God’s voice more often, live in God’s mercy and grace more freely, and see the example of Jesus more clearly.
