Key Passage: John 15:18-25
When we do what Jesus did, we will rarely fit in with the world.
REVIEW: If we follow Christ, some people will hate us.
- READ: John 15:18 “If the world hates you, remember that it hated me first.”
- DISCUSS: How have you historically responded to possible or actual resistance to your faith?
- DISCUSS: How does Jesus’ expectation of rejection affect your perspective on faith?
REVIEW: If we follow Christ, we “come out” from the world.
- READ: John 15:19 “The world would love you as one of its own if you belonged to it, but you are no longer part of the world. I chose you to come out of the world, so it hates you.”
- DISCUSS: What are some ways you have separated yourself from the ways of the world? What are some ways you think you can do so more thoroughly?
REVIEW: If we follow Christ, we are following the truth.
- READ: James 4:8 “Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.”
- DISCUSS: Is there anything in your life right now that causes you to doubt that God’s plan is best? What might you need to surrender for Jesus to really be the King of your life?
ASK:
What else did you get out of the sermon this week? What actions or next steps can you do to start applying it to your life?
PRAY:
Pray for the courage to surrender everything to Jesus, and for the Holy Spirit to develop a deeper trust in God’s plan, so that we can stay committed to his ways.
