Jesus teaches and demonstrates that we should use our power to serve others.
REVIEW: Jesus knew who he was.
- READ: John 13:3 “Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God.”
- DISCUSS: When or where have you felt the pressure to prove yourself to others? How can that be settled in your heart?
REVIEW: Jesus knew why he was here.
- READ: 2 Corinthians 5:19 “For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation.”
- DISCUSS: Do you feel a sense of purpose in the environments or situations you are involved with? How might God want to work through you there?
REVIEW: Jesus knew where he was going.
- READ: 2 Corinthians 4:17-18 “For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.
- DISCUSS: What does it mean to you to live with an eternal perspective?
REVIEW: Jesus used power to serve others.
- READ: John 13:14-15 “And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you.”
- DISCUSS: How has someone else used their power to serve and support you? Who can you do this for in your current context?
